Saharawi human rights activist deprived of his right to register for university studies in Agadir (Morocco)

27/11/2008

--(Sahara Press Service)--

Saharawi student, Lamine Sahel has been refused registration in the Ibn Zuhr faculty of law in Agadir by the Moroccan authorities, because of his political opinions in favour of the self-determination of the Saharawi people.

In the beginning, the administration of the university gave its consent to register him, but abruptly rejected the registration without giving reasons, a source from the Ministry of Saharawi occupied territories deplored.

A committee representing the Saharawi students that tried to intervene in the issue was surprised by a decision adopted by the university administration to prevent all Saharawi human rights activists from registering in university to continue their studies.

"The registration of Saharawi activists depends on the approval of the Moroccan Ministry of Interior, because these activists are enemies of the Moroccan regime," said the Rector of Ibn Zuhr University.

It should be recalled that the prohibition of the Saharawi student Lamine Sahel, to register at the Ibn Zuhr faculty comes after the prohibition of his compatriot, the Saharawi human rights defender and former political prisoner, Ali Salem Tamek, the same year.
